Doctoral student Juan García Palou, paleontologist and geologist in training under the supervision of Rafel Matamales at MUCBO | Museum of Natural Sciences, recently took part in the international TAPHOS 2025 conference, held in Ferrara, Italy. This scientific meeting brings together specialists from around the world in the field of taphonomy — the branch of paleontology that studies the processes occurring from the death of an organism to the fossilisation of its remains.
During the conference, Juan García Palou presented preliminary results from one of the chapters of his doctoral thesis, focused on the taphonomy of Permian fossil remains from Mallorca. Notable among the studied materials are remains of the Tramuntanasaure and Gorgonopsid, both discovered on the island.
His participation in the conference was highly valuable, offering the opportunity to exchange knowledge with researchers from other institutions, compare methodologies, and refine taphonomic interpretations through scientific debate.
At MUCBO, we congratulate Juan García Palou on his outstanding work and his dedication to uncovering Mallorca’s paleontological past.
