The MUCBO

The MUCBO (Sóller Botanical Garden Foundation – Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences) is a pioneering institution in the Balearic Islands in terms of research, conservation, dissemination, and environmental education in our islands, with over 30 years of history. It contains two main sections, the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences, with permanent exhibitions on geology, paleontology, and current biodiversity, and the Sóller Botanical Garden, which features a live plant exhibition, herbarium, and germplasm bank. The institution also organizes workshops, conferences, and school visits on different topics related to Natural Sciences in the Balearic Islands. All this experience makes MUCBO a reference entity in the Balearic Islands regarding the conservation, dissemination, and study of the nature that surrounds us.

The Sóller Botanical Garden

The Sóller Botanical Garden, founded in 1985 and opened to the public in 1992, is a space dedicated to the conservation, study, and dissemination of Mediterranean Balearic flora, especially endemic and threatened species. Located in the Sóller Valley, it is organized into different terraces that group plants into two main collections: wild plants (Balearic, Canarian, and Mediterranean flora) and cultivated plants (ornamental, medicinal, fruit trees, and vegetables).

The Garden collaborates on international conservation projects and is a reference for botanical research and environmental education. It is part of MUCBO (Sóller Botanical Garden Foundation – Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences), creating a unique space that combines plant heritage with scientific collections. It is an ideal place for family visits, educational activities, and enjoying the nature of the Serra de Tramuntana. Perfect for exploring and learning about Balearic biodiversity in a tranquil and inspiring environment.

Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences

The Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences was originally created to house the micropaleontology collection of the illustrious Sóller native Guillem Colom. From the first actions to set up the Museum, important Natural History collections from our islands were gathered. With more than one million specimens, today the Museum has an extensive representation of rocks, minerals, and fossils from the Balearic Islands, as well as sets of samples of mollusks, echinoderms, fish, reptiles, birds, and current mammals. One of the most important objectives of the Museum is the conservation of this valuable heritage, and also its dissemination.

Visitors can explore three main exhibitions: Geology (ground floor), Paleontology (first floor), and Biodiversity (second floor). Schools have at their disposal an extensive educational program, and workshops and talks on various topics related to Natural Sciences are also organized.
