On Saturday, May 24th, a new session of the Self-Sufficiency Workshop Series organized by MUCBO was held, bringing together around twenty participants interested in organic farming and fruit tree care.
This time, the workshop focused on treatments for the bases of fruit trees—an essential aspect to ensure their health and longevity. The session was led by Llorenç Payeras, an expert with extensive experience in rural practices, who shared his knowledge with clarity and enthusiasm.
In addition to the theoretical content, participants had the chance to put their learning into practice by working directly with fruit trees in the Botanical Garden. During the hands-on activity, they prepared and applied a traditional mixture of copper sulfate and lime, an effective treatment for protecting tree trunks from fungi and other diseases, especially in winter or under adverse conditions.
The workshop also covered basic concepts related to the tree life cycle and the influence of environmental conditions on their overall health, providing practical tools for the sustainable management of home gardens and small farms.
Participants highly valued the session, praising its practical relevance, the approachability of the instructor, and the quality of the content. A well-rounded day for those striving for self-sufficiency and eager to care for the environment responsibly.
The workshop was funded by Conselleria d’Agricultura, Pesca i Alimentació a través del Fons de Garantia Agrària i Pesquera de les Illes Balears (FOGAIBA).
