Last Friday, 2 October, the exhibition «RADIOLARIS i ALTRES BITXOS» by artist Maria Abando opened at the MUCBO, where it can be visited until 21 February 2027.
During the opening event, around one hundred people came to the MUCBO to discover the exhibition and learn first-hand about the artist’s sources of inspiration. Maria Abando shared with the audience different aspects of her creative process, as well as interesting details about the materials used and the conception and creation of the works featured in the exhibition.
The exhibition is divided into two distinct sections, connecting art, nature and science through an original and surprising perspective. The first section is dedicated to radiolarians, tiny single-celled organisms that form part of plankton and are characterised by their extraordinary shapes and structures. The artist recreates these organisms through luminous sculptures made from Mallorcan sheep’s wool, transforming a traditional material from the Balearic Islands into pieces that evoke the delicate forms of radiolarians.
The second section, entitled «Altres bitxos», presents a series of entomological boxes containing insects created from materials recovered from drawers and natural elements. Among these materials, the winged fruit (samara) stands out, which the artist incorporates into her creations to form the insects’ wings.

At the MUCBO, we would like to thank Maria Abando for placing her trust in the museum and for her generosity in sharing this artistic proposal with us, inviting us to observe nature from a different perspective and discover the beauty of its smallest and most extraordinary forms.
We invite you to visit «RADIOLARIS | ALTRES BITXOS» and let yourselves be surprised by this dialogue between art, science, nature and materials from our surroundings.
