Last Thursday, 16 September, the donation of the palaeontological collection given by Antoni Comes to MUCBO in 2025 was formally completed. The naturalist donated a significant part of his private collection, greatly expanding the catalogue of fossils from the Balearic Islands held at the Museu Balear de Ciències Naturals.
Over the past year, technicians and specialists have been working on the collection, cataloguing each specimen and photographing it to create a digital record. Now that this important work has been completed, Comes and the Museum’s curator, Rafel Matamales, signed the formal donation document, certifying the incorporation of the specimens into MUCBO’s collections.
With this donation, MUCBO – Museu Balear de Ciències Naturals further strengthens its key role in the conservation of palaeontological heritage and in research into the species represented in the fossil record of the Balearic Islands.
