Workshops connecting young people with nature.

A Great Success in Participation for the Nature Workshops for Young People Organized by the Friends of MUCBO Association

This summer, the Friends of MUCBO Association launched a pilot initiative aimed at encouraging young people over the age of twelve to take part in nature-related activities. Two workshops were organized, one on illustration and another on photography, both attracting a high level of participation.

The first workshop was led by Miquel Camio, illustrator and concept artist, across three sessions in which participants learned techniques for drawing animals and plants from the museum and garden collections. The activity also helped broaden their knowledge of the anatomy and biology of the living beings they used as models.

The second workshop, focusing on nature photography, was taught by David Casajuana, an experienced mountain and nature guide. In his words: “Nature always reveals its beauty to us, and all it takes is the patience to observe in order to capture it.” During the workshop, participants were introduced not only to the fundamentals of photography but also to the ethics of nature photography, environmental conservation, and safety practices during outdoor photography sessions.

The idea for these workshops came from a group of young people who actively promote such activities. Together with them, the Association plans to organize additional workshops during the coming academic year and possibly during the summer of 2027 as well. Many of these activities will be carried out in collaboration with the Town Council’s Espai Jove, enabling young people from Sóller to take part while benefiting from the youth facilities and infrastructure available through this institution.
