In February, as part of the ARCHBOTANKA project, members of MUCBO accompanied researchers from the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris (MNHN) and the ArqueoUIB group to carry out wood sampling tasks. The goal of this task is to create a reference collection of woody plant species (xylotheque) and charcoal (anthracotheque) that will support the study of charcoal remains from archaeological sites in both Sri Lanka and the Balearic Islands.
This action, led by the research team from MNHN in Paris, is one of the objectives of the ARCHBOTANKA project, which aims to study the practices of fuel acquisition and energy consumption in the past and their relationship with environmental, economic, and social sustainability.
If you want to learn more about the study of archaeological charcoal remains (anthracology) and fuel ethnoarchaeology, don’t miss the talk by MNHN researcher and archaeologist Germain Hello-Laprérie, which will take place on April 8th at MUCBO.
