Last Tuesday, October 7, the exhibition “Caves: Unique Environments” was inaugurated at the MUCBO | Museu Balear de Ciències Naturals. This exhibition invites visitors to uncover the secrets of the subterranean world of the Balearic Islands.
The event was attended by more than forty people, including speleology specialists and speakers linked to the recent lecture series on caves held in recent months.
The exhibition offers an immersive experience that combines scientific outreach and visual resources to understand the biodiversity, geology, and history of these exceptional spaces. One of its main attractions is the realistic recreation of a cave, allowing visitors to closely observe rock formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and columns, as well as enlarged reproductions of cave-dwelling fauna.
In addition, the exhibition highlights the scientific and heritage importance of these unique environments, which have been essential for the study of extinct species and for understanding the archaeological past of the Islands. The project, partially itinerant, is part of a scientific outreach initiative supported by the FECYT, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and the Department of Education and Universities.
