A large audience filled the Biodiversity Hall of the MUCBO Science Museum to listen to Sóller native Dr. Francesc Xavier Castanyer Mallol speak about Antarctica and the work carried out with the Eremita research group during the COVID period.
During the talk, Dr. Castanyer described his journey to the White Continent and the challenges of undertaking such an expedition in the midst of a global pandemic. Under the title “A Journey to the White Continent: Science and Survival in Antarctica”, he captivated the audience by explaining the lifestyle of scientists working in this remote environment. In his case, he spent several months at the Juan Carlos I Antarctic Base studying plants and their behavior in such a harsh ecosystem.
The presentation also featured spectacular images of icy landscapes, which left the audience with a vivid sense of the continent’s cold and unique beauty.
