The MUCBO drives the digitisation of the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences collections with MuseumPlus

Thanks to the grant awarded by the Conselleria Insular de Cultura i Patrimoni as part of the 2025 call, the MUCBO | Museu Balear de Ciències Naturals has been able to continue advancing in the digitisation and management of its collections through MuseumPlus, a software solution for the comprehensive management and documentation of collections.

The five‑month project aimed to enter all available data for each specimen, following the sequential order from the most recently incorporated registration number. In addition, taxonomic nomenclature has been reviewed and updated based on the latest scientific data, through consultation of online databases and specialised publications. High‑quality photographs of the specimens have also been taken to facilitate their future location.

The collection of the MUCBO | Museu Balear de Ciències Naturals consists of around 90,000 items, many of them corresponding to batches of up to 500 elements.

Today, MuseumPlus is an essential tool for the documentation, conservation and management of cultural heritage. The work carried out with this software represents a key step in ensuring the preservation and accessibility of the natural heritage of the Balearic Islands.
