A fascinating look at underground life in the second talk of the “Caves: Unique Environments” series

On July 10th, we held the second session of the lecture series Caves: Unique Environments, with a talk dedicated to biospeleology, led by naturalist and MUCBO collaborator Lluc Garcia.

Around thirty people attended the talk, immersing themselves in the captivating world of subterranean life. Lluc Garcia explained the unique adaptations of cave-dwelling species: atrophied eyes, lack of pigmentation, extreme sensitivity to environmental changes, and more.

The session also shed light on Mallorca’s historical and scientific role as a pioneer in the study of subterranean fauna — a key contribution to the field of biospeleology on an international scale.

The event sparked great interest and left the audience wanting more. Luckily, the series continues with activities scheduled for August and September!
