The curator of the Sóller Botanical Garden, Magdalena Vicens, gave a lecture on May 21 about the history of the creation of our Garden and the challenges for the future.
Magdalena Vicens presented the history behind the creation of the Garden. The presentation, held as part of the activities to celebrate the International Day of Plant Fascination, was attended by around fifteen people who were able to enjoy explanations about how the Garden was shaped as we know it today. From a private estate with orange groves to a reference center for plant conservation in the Balearic Islands, the space was developed based on knowledge and reflection about which plants should be preserved; from this criterion, the different terraced areas were designed, and not the other way around.
Vicens highlighted climate change and the drive of younger generations to continue the project as the main challenges.
