On April 26, biologist Joan Díaz will offer us a talk-workshop to discover THE BEES THAT DO NOT MAKE HONEY, wild pollinators that keep our nature running.

When we think of bees, the first image that comes to mind is that of the honeybee (Apis mellifera). But did you know that this is just one of over 20,000 species of bees that exist in the world? In the Balearic Islands, we have a great diversity of wild bees, many of which go unnoticed but play a fundamental role in the pollination of our ecosystems. In this talk, we will explore the fascinating diversity of bees that do not make honey: from small solitary bees that nest in the ground to leafcutter bees or the spectacular carpenter bees.

We will discuss their ecology, their role in nature, and the challenges they face in a constantly changing world. We will also learn how we can help them from home or our surroundings. Finally, we will end with a walk through the botanical garden to observe some of these species in action, identify their floral preferences, and better understand their behavior.

Discover these pollinators and their importance for the biodiversity of the Balearic Islands!
