The Ibero-Macaronesian Association of Botanic Gardens is holding its 18th Congress this week in Vitoria-Gasteiz, with this edition focused on Botanical Collections, and the management and conservation of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity. During these days, representatives from botanic gardens across the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands have presented their contributions to share knowledge and experiences in various fields, ranging from the management and conservation of herbaria to educational activities and science outreach.
The sessions were held at the Olarizu Botanical Garden and the Salburua Interpretation Centre, including highly engaging guided tours of the facilities.
The congress also hosted meetings of the association’s working groups. Aina Martí and Manuel Pomar took part in the education group, while Magdalena Vicens, curator of the Sóller Botanical Garden, participated in the working group on database management, collections, and the REDBAG network.
This congress provides an opportunity to establish connections among experts in different areas of plant conservation and to foster synergies in the management of Botanic Gardens as spaces for conservation, research, and scientific outreach.
