Caves and Aquifers: Two Hidden Treasures of Balearic Geology

24 April 2026

The MUCBO | Museum of Natural Sciences will commission the production of two animations for the permanent geology exhibition. The first aims to show how one of the most characteristic geological features of the Balearic Islands is formed: caves. The second will focus on how aquifers function and the threats to which they are exposed.

Both animations will have a strong educational component, designed to engage audiences of all ages and to introduce them to these hidden treasures of Balearic geology.

This project has been funded by the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities of the Government of the Balearic Islands, within the framework of the grants for the organization of science outreach and social communication activities in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands for the 2025–2026 period, funded with ITS funds.
