On June 4, MUCBO will host the presentation of the first two volumes of the Album of Balearic Flora, a joint work by biologist Margalida Llabrés and illustrator, science communicator and explorer Vicenç Sastre. The event will be introduced by Magdalena Vicens, curator of the Botanic Garden of Sóller.
This unique publication, divided into two volumes, is the result of a project imagined years ago by the authors, aiming to share the richness of Balearic flora through a harmonious blend of science, art and sensitivity.
Volume 1, already published, offers a selection of 63 species of spermatophytes —plants with flowers and fruit— found in a variety of habitats across the Balearic Islands. With clear, educational texts by Margalida Llabrés and detailed illustrations by Vicenç Sastre, the book invites readers of all ages to enjoy and discover the special traits of these botanical wonders.
Volume 2, just released and presented as the culmination of the project, completes the work with 67 additional species from forest and scrubland, coastal areas, riverbank woodlands and meadows. Together, both volumes include 130 species, with a special focus on Balearic endemics, which represent the most distinctive part of our native flora.
This double publication offers a unique insight into the plant world of the Balearic Islands and becomes a valuable tool for learning and appreciating our natural environment. Whether you’re a nature lover or simply curious about botanical illustration, this presentation is not to be missed.
The event is open to the public and will conclude with a Q&A session with the authors
