The Menorcan edition of the 9th Environmental Conference of the Balearic Islands, held in Maó on December 18 and 19, featured the participation of MUCBO with presentations by Rafel Matamales, curator at the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences, and Joan Díaz, scientific collaborator at the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences.
Within the earth sciences program, Matamales presented “New discoveries of vertebrate ichnites from the Permian of Menorca,” while Joan Díaz gave two presentations: “Do we really know the diversity of bees in the Balearic Islands?” and “Towards an updated catalogue of the ants of Menorca: creation of a public reference collection and open-access genetic data,” both included in the zoology and terrestrial ecology program.
As explained by the organizers from the Natural History Society of the Balearic Islands: “The Conference, organized by the Natural History Society, aims to provide a space where researchers and naturalists from different fields can present their research and lines of work, all sharing the Balearic Islands as a common denominator. In this way, naturalists can learn about the work being carried out in fields different from their own.”
The next editions of the conference will take place in Ibiza on January 22 and 23 (2026), and in Formentera on January 26 and 27. It will be the second time the event is held in Formentera.
