The MUCBO now has the labels for its wine!

The MUCBO now has the designs for the labels of the special batch of wine that Bodegas José L. Ferrer has produced dedicated to the museum. The proposal by Helen Gräwert, an artist and printmaker based in Calvià, was the winner of the competition launched to select the two labels that will adorn the MUCBO’s white and red wines.

The winning proposal is based on a common concept for both labels and turns the bottles into a small window onto Mallorca’s nature and heritage. The design is inspired by the metal structure of one of the museum’s windows and incorporates different elements representing the collections of the Museum, the Botanical Garden and the Serra de Tramuntana.

The white wine label is mainly dedicated to the Botanical Garden and presents a daytime setting. It features species and elements linked to wild flora, traditional varieties, medicinal plants and aquatic ecosystems, including such representative species as the Mallorcan midwife toad, Hypericum balearicum and the holm oak. At the centre of the composition is the entrance to the Botanical Garden.

In contrast, the red wine label delves into the collections of the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences and adopts a nocturnal atmosphere. The composition includes references to entomology, ornithology, marine biodiversity and palaeontology, with such emblematic elements as Myotragus balearicus, the noble pen shell and various fossils preserved in the museum.

The two labels also share the silhouette of the Serra de Tramuntana, conceived so that, when the two bottles are placed side by side, the visual landscape is completed and forms a single composition.

To create the designs, Helen Gräwert used linocut, a graphic technique that makes it possible to achieve well-defined lines and preserve the visual strength of the illustrations even in a format as small as a wine label. The artist visited the MUCBO again during the creative process to seek inspiration directly from the collections, the spaces and the landscape surrounding the museum.

The result is two complementary labels that bring together art, nature, science, heritage and landscape, giving a distinctive identity to this special batch of wine by Bodegas José L. Ferrer dedicated to the MUCBO.
