Birdwatching Excursion to s’Albufera Organised by the Friends of the MUCBO Society

Last Saturday, the final day of October, the ornithology section of the Friends of the MUCBO Society organised an excursion to s’Albufera. Throughout the morning, Toni Fontanet guided participants on a birdwatching outing through canals and reed beds, during one of the best times of the year to discover the great diversity of species that inhabit this natural area.

The osprey was one of the main highlights of the day, providing a memorable sight as it prepared to eat a fish it had just caught. Flamingos, with their characteristic vivid pink colour, also offered a spectacular display as they took flight together against the autumn sky. Glossy ibises were also seen, rising into the air before the observers.

Throughout the route, many other species were identified, including spoonbills, white and grey ducks, shovelers, marbled teals, coots, sandpipers, avocets, common sandpipers, harriers, white and grey herons, and wood pigeons.

The day concluded with an exceptional landscape, marked by the colours of a rainbow and rain clouds on the horizon, which turned the morning into a truly natural spectacle.
