On August 7th, the second session of the Conferències Naturals cycle took place — an initiative organised by MUCBO in collaboration with the Friends of MUCBO Society, which continues to generate great public interest.
Around fifty people gathered at MUCBO to attend the talk titled “Mallorca abans d’ésser Mallorca: el ric registre fòssil de la nostra illa” presented by MUCBO researcher Josep Juárez.
Over the course of an hour, Juárez guided the audience through a fascinating journey spanning millions of years of life on the island of Mallorca, with a special focus on the island’s most recent paleontological discoveries. He also highlighted how many of the geological materials that make up the island today are over 300 million years old, revealing a natural history far deeper and richer than we often imagine.
The evening concluded with a special musical moment: a violin recital performed by the speaker himself, followed by an open discussion, where attendees were able to engage with Juárez in a relaxed and enriching setting.
At MUCBO, we are thrilled with the public’s response to this conference series, which continues to grow in both interest and participation. In fact, on October 17th, we’ll host a second edition of the popular talk “Eclipse 2026: Survival Guide”, led by Pep Marcús, after the first session (held on July 31st) sold out rapidly. Although the event is currently fully booked, interested individuals may still sign up for the waiting list.
The Conferències Naturals are yet another example of MUCBO’s commitment to scientific outreach and building bridges between science and society. We’re excited to share knowledge with such an enthusiastic and engaged audience!

On August 7th, the second session of the Conferències Naturals cycle took place — an initiative organised by MUCBO in collaboration with the Friends of MUCBO Society, which continues to generate great public interest.
